Believe it or not there are approximately 1700 keys or islands that make up the chain of the Florida Keys. The Keys extend 198 miles off the southern tip of Florida. The northernmost key is Soldier Key and the southernmost is the Dry Tortugas where Fort Jefferson National Park is located. St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

There are lots of celebrations going on this weekend thru Monday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day throughout the Keys. Plenty of live music, great food and great people.   The 25th Annual Upper Keys Irish Festival will be March 15th and will begin at 11am with the parade starting shortly after at noon. The festivities will be held at the Caribbean Club in Key Largo.  This is a fundraiser for the Teen Intervention Prevention Services of the Florida Keys. Sea Turtle Nesting Season

The majority of the nesting season takes please between March and October. Specifically March 1-October 31 (Atlantic) and May 1-October 31 (Gulf).  As the nesting season begins in the Floriday Keys, our park and city staff, as well as biologists are preparing to monitor nests and keep them safe.  Staff and volunteers work hard to mark all of the nests and patroll the sites to make sure they are not being desturbed.
