Sea Turtle Nesting Season

The majority of the nesting season takes please between March and October. Specifically March 1-October 31 (Atlantic) and May 1-October 31 (Gulf).  As the nesting season begins in the Floriday Keys, our park and city staff, as well as biologists are preparing to monitor nests and keep them safe.  Staff and volunteers work hard to mark all of the nests and patroll the sites to make sure they are not being desturbed. Patrols help staff protect nests from predators, report stranded or inured turtles and teach others about sea turtles.

Ways We Can Help:

• Give nesting adults and their hatchlings space and take care not to disturb them.
• Please do not interrupt the hatchlings crawl to the ocean unless they are crawling away.
• Turn off artificial lighting near beaches at night during nesting season.
• Properly dispose of food items to decrease predation from wildlife.
• Properlty dispose of debris ike fishing line, netting and plastics.
• Keep obstacles such as beach furniture off the beach during nestin season.
• Participate in beach cleanup events.
• Call the FWC (888-404-3922) if you spot a nest or encounter a sick or injured turtle.
