Well the holiday season is upon us and I will say that this is my favorite time of the year. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I'm looking forward to seeing our grown children and their spouses come visit us. Knowing my wife, she'll be baking for days on end and the house will be filled with aromas from my childhood. Those warm memories of days gone by always puts a smile on my face and I remember them fondly. Approximately four weeks later, Christmas arrives and the baking and family reunions begin again. How can that not put a smile on your face?
This time of year in the Keys is gorgeous. The heat starts giving way to cooler air and the A/C does not have to work in overdrive as it did for the past 6 months. Hurricane season is coming to a close and the sliders can finally be opened. One of the things that I have never gotten used to is that everything is still green this time of year. Up north on the other hand, as night follows day grey follows white….snow that is. I remember growing up in Chicago as a kid and how those grey days were so depressing and then the snow came. Seeing that snow fall was cool at first, but boy did it get old fast. I can see why so many flock down here from the "Great White North" in the winter.
I guess today I was just feeling a little sentimental and I appreciate you hanging in there with me. This is the best time of year to be in the Keys and as I have said to my wife many times this time of year, "Honey this is why people spend the big bucks to come down here now". Wouldn't trade it in for the world. I'll take my lawnmower any day over a snow blower.
For those who love to travel during the holidays, this time of year is perfect for a vacation in Marathon or Key Colony Beach. The temperature is comfortable, the humidity is low, and the weather and water is great for boating of all types – kayaking, sailing, deep sea or flats fishing, or just plain relaxing on board.
