Pigeon Key Centennial Celebration in the Florida Keys

Historical Pigeon Key in the Florida Keys is hosting its 100 year celebration of the Henry Flagler railroad.  Pigeon Key is nestled beneath the Old Seven Mile Bridge just two miles west of Marathon. The island is five acres in size and housed more than 400 workers who built the Henry Flagler railroad in the early 1900's.  The Keynoter newspaper states the island was a base camp with a commissary and one-room school during the bridges construction from 1908-1912.

The public is invited to the celebration on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 to travel back in time to the 1900's and explore Pigeon Key, one of the Keys' landmark railroad heritage sites, largely unchanged compared with other island in the Keys. Historical tours are to be offered of the islands museum that chronicles the construction of the final installment of Henry Flagler's Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railroad. Many of Pigeon Key's original railroad buildings and houses dating to 1909 still stand today.

Please join the celebration between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on January14th. Admission is free, however donations are appreciated.

For more information, visit www.pigeonkey.net or call 305-743-5999. Hope to see you there!

Warm Regards From the Keys, Judy Cinque
