Marathon in the Florida Keys has only been incorporated 1999 but local government and residents are making great strides to improve the municipality.
Some of the exciting things going on in the Middle Keys....We're looking into bringing commercial airline service back to the Marathon Airport! Also, The Friends of Old Seven Mile Bridge group is starting the process to contact our Florida lobbyists to look into securing grant monies to repair the 7-Mile bridge. The hope is to at least maintain the integrity of the bridge enough to allow pedestrians to walk, jog and enjoy the famous Keys sunsets from the bridge. The central sewer system is almost completed; the US 1 corridor has been landscaped and DOT expects to be done with the new traffic lights at every major intersection in Marathon by the end of the year!
When you return to the Keys for the winter or for your vacation take a good look around... Marathon is on the move... in a positive direction!
