"It's hard to move your car when a 7 foot Burmese python is blocking the driveway," reads The Florida Keys Keynoter article.
Yikes! Key Colony Beach Police Officer Charles Griffith coaxed a 7 foot Burmese phython into a trash can on November 12, 2011 at the Monte Christo Condominium. A German tourist found the snake sunning itself beside his rental car.
The snake was turned over to Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission officers who then got it to the U.S. Geological Survey wildlife biologist's in Key Largo.
This exotic species is the target of concerned environmentalists -- and the subject of a controversial proposal by Senator Bill Nelson to ban the shipment of the snake across state lines. Wildlife officials are concerned that such a move may result in more of this and other exotic snakes being released into the wild, reports the Sun Sentinel story.
Burmese pythons can reach 26 feet long... I'm glad this one must have been a youngster! For the full article go to: http://www.keysnet.com.
